Volcano Ki’i

This digital photo painting depicts a hand-carved mask depicting a native Hawaiian Ki’i (pronounced Key-ee) and photos of actual lava flows from the eruption of Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawai‘i.

Ki‘i are representations of native Hawaiian gods (akua) and guardians (aumakua). Hawaiian Ki’i are sometimes incorrectly referred to as Tikis or Tiki gods. Tiki is the Maori, or native New Zealander, word for a similar type of art.
